FarmDecisionTECH – Climate Smart Pilots

The Climate Smart Pilots project is a major component of the Primary Industries Climate Change Research Strategy, delivering practical demonstrations of the role of digital technology and novel adaptation options in managing climate variability. Facilitating monitoring technologies that improve the management of climate variability across primary industries including livestock, horticulture and fisheries.

Item Supplied: Mobile Application

A mobile app/website using React. A GPS based application which allows researchers to record and retrieve data relating to research projects in the field.

Item Supplied: MQTT Broker

A backend service for streaming IOT sensor telemetry data for a variety of agricultural sensors deployments for the NSW Department of Primary industries.

Item Supplied: IOT Dashboards

Custom developed real time IOT dashboards utilising GPS and mapping/data visualisation. Technical documentation supplied with instructions for farmers/stakeholders to install agricultural sensors in the field and integrate them with the system. As well as general usability guides for accessing dashboards and configuring reporting.

This solution integrates multiple technologies. Including Thingspeak, Thingsboard, Matlab, Clickatell SMS API, The Things Network.

Custom reports based on data collected from agricultural sensors, user interactions with IOT dashboards, and device logs from radio network gateways/infrastructure. Used to quantify uptake from farmers/stakeholders, network tolerance/stress thresholds, and help agricultural specialists to develop/test algorithms for predictive analysis (for example optimal planting times for horticulture).

Item Supplied: Public Data API

Real time available data API. API specification, set up the access control/permissions and monitored usage to assess scalability needs.

Streams aggregated/processed data from the sensor deployments. Integration examples supplied for the R platform & Matlab.
